“BAPTISM” QUESTION NEEDS ANSWERS?
I’ve been looking into different things relating to forgiveness of sins and such, and I came across a few people who told me about baptism as an adult. Now I’m wondering, how is this done?

I know a lot of people will say it’s been done because of being baptized as a child and doesn’t need to be re-done, but this is about repentance and you can’t repent as a child and if you’ve been “saved” as a child before doing bad things, I feel it doesn’t really count, especially when the child doesn’t know what’s going on and probably feels that sinning is okay growing up because you’ve been baptized… Anyway, does anyone know anything about baptism for adults? I need all the information I can get. Thanks in advance.

“Fifth Business” by Robertson Davies, its not a big or featured scene in the book but it facilitates the theme. Its in the beginning when Paul Dempster is born prematurely.

BustedHalo.com’s fantastic introduction to the Sacraments series: Why, exactly, do Catholics have the practice of baptizing infants? What is the purpose of baptism and who can celebrate the sacrament of Baptism? Do the godparents of our child need to be married to each other? These are questions and more are answered in this edition of “Sacraments 101,” a web video series geared for those who’d like an introduction or refresher course on these important, tangible Catholic experiences of God. Baptism is the beginning of the sacramental life of the Church. So, let’s begin… Join Fr. Dave Dwyer, CSP, as he explains why the Catholic Church practices infant baptism, as well as who can be baptized, what is needed, and what is involved in this humorous and informative short video. I thought that was the alternate title of Revelation 17.

What does Peter mean in 1 Peter 3:21 that “baptism” saves us?
1 Peter 3:21
“The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”

Does he REALLY mean that baptism has anything to do with salvation? Does he really mean something else here.
Can this be explained in the context of the letter from which it is written. I know other scriptures saay what they say; and they are to be taken in the context from which THEY are written. But what does THIS mean; ONLY citing the text in THIS letter.

Any Help?
Patron, Is he saying that Baptism is necessary for salvation?
Kait, I’m really trying to get what PETER is saying here.
So, “the thief on the cross” I’m thinking dosen’t have anything to do with this letter. Besides, The church had not been established when the thief was on his cross. There was no church of Christ to be baptiszed into. So that’s a “common” bad example.

“an appeal to God FOR a good conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ”
is not the same as:
“the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” 1 Peter 3:21
You see, I think Peter is saying here: That after believing, repenting, and confessing (all understood to be necessary before being baptized into Christ, otherwise, you are “just getting wet”), being baptized is DONE as an answer of a good concience toward God; That is; you do it KNOWING what you are committing to, and that is to Christ.

When we are baptised with water and the Holy Spirit, the works of Christ (suffering, death, and resurrection) are applied to us. Therefore, if we die in Christ, we will also rise in Christ to eternal life. Baptism justifies us to be in union with Christ. God bless.

From the Beginning to Baptism: Scientific and Sacred Stories of Water, Oil, and Fire

In From the Beginning to Baptism, Linda Gibler takes readers on a journey from the depths of space and the beginning of time through sacred Scripture and church history to discover the origins and creative power of water, oil, and fire. She traces the lives of those elemental entities through their cosmic history, to the point at which they are poured over the head and light the way of one being baptized. These elemental sources of all life are the substances through which new life in Christ begins in the sacrament of baptism. The journey through space and time, through the birth of the Universe and of life, and Gibler s reflections on this drama, help readers to enter into the cosmocentric spirituality at the heart of all things. The Catholic Church is my home, and it is a beautiful place of absolute truth. Unfortunately the world has tried to define it in ways that are far from the truth. I was inspired to make this video in an effort to reach out to some truth seeking teens who are trying answer the question of what it means to be Catholic. I don’t expect this to appeal to all, but hopefully it will grab some of you and help you realize what being Catholic is… “all about.” -Joseph K. of defend-us-in-battle.blogspot.com Please Visit www.twitter.com www.facebook.com
