No. It also refers to baptism by the Holy Spirit. Some might say we are “put into” Christ.
This refers to a radical change in our identity vis-a-vis God.
Baptism means “immersion”. How can you apply the word differently?
GOD bless
Christ emphasized, baptism is necessary! It’s in the Bible John 3:5
Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
There are a number of similarities between a marriage ceremony and baptism. Baptism is the entrance into the Christian family. One takes the name of Christ (Christian). God designs that this is to be a life-time experience in which one’s personal relationship with Him is ever improving and very personal. Salvation through the shed blood of Jesus on Calvary is the theme of the gospel (Romans 3:25; 5:9; Ephesians. 1:7; Colossians 1:20; Hebrews 9:22; Revelation 1:5; etc.). You can depend upon it by faith through His grace.
And here is more Info:
What practice is closely associated with believing the gospel? It’s in the Bible, Mark 16:15-16, NIV. “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whosoever does not believe will be condemned.”
When the people felt convicted on the day of Pentecost what did Peter say they should do? It’s in the Bible, Acts 2:38, NIV. “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven.’”
What does baptism represent? It’s in the Bible, Acts 22:16, TEV. “And now, why wait any longer? Get up and be baptized and have your sins washed away by calling on His name.”
How many different types of baptism do the Scriptures teach? It’s in the Bible, Ephesians 4:5, NIV “One Lord, one faith, one baptism.”
How is such a baptism described? It’s in the Bible, Romans 6:2-7, NIV. “We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
What occurred at the baptism of Jesus? It’s in the Bible, Matthew 3:16-17, NIV. “As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.’”
Into whose name are believers to be baptized? It’s in the Bible, Matthew 28:19, NIV. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
How and where did Philip conduct the baptism of the converted eunuch? It’s in the Bible, Acts 8:36-39, NIV. “As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?’ And he ordered the chariot to stop. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.”
What are the prerequisites of baptism? It’s in the Bible, Acts 8:12, TEV. “But when they believed Philip’s message about the Good News of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Acts 2:37-38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
No.
Both Old and New Testaments speak of “baptism by the Holy Spirit”. In the Old Testament, this is usually referred to as “… and then God will pour out His Spirit…”
PHYSICAL baptism, using water, is a CEREMONY used to SHOW that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. This act does NOT have anything to do with being “saved”. You are no more saved if you get baptized, and no less saved if you do not. Being baptized in WATER is a symbol to your family, friends, and YOUR CHURCH that you are a Christian, and that is all. SOME churches REQUIRE that you be baptized to belong to their church; others do not. BOTH are correct.
But being baptized by the Holy Spirit is COMPLETELY different, This is a direct result of your salvation. Jesus promises that He will send the Holy Spirit, a “new counselor” (in Jesus’ words) to ALL those who are saved.
It is the action of the Holy Spirit within you that causes and supports the changes inside you that SHOW to others that you are Christian.
I can’t quite believe all those people who were sprinkled with water and still believe and witness to the gift of the Holy Spirit are not Christians. I don’t believe in limiting a limitless God. If its a ceremonial thing, its the same thing as parts of the Law. Symbolic, not actual. The slaughter of the Lamb was symbolic and actual. Symbolic as in Communion. Jesus commanded it, but its not always observed in the same ways among believers. It’s the thought behind the ceremony that counts and where it leads to, not the actual strictly observed “ceremony”. Jesus made that very clear throughout the New Testament.
Don’t get stuck on the minors. Because Jesus Christ is risen and coming again soon.
Well after Jesus was baptized in water he said for all who believe to go be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, so I don’t know what else he could have meant than literal water baptism.
Yes, Acts 2: 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent , and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off , even as many as the Lord our God shall call .
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort , saying , Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized : and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Notice repentance is the first step in salvation, then baptism and THEN the baptism of the Holy Ghost/Spirit. There is a great difference between water baptism and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
John 3:5 Jesus answered , Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Water refers to water baptism by immersion and commanded by Jesus. We can not pick and choose which Scripture we will follow and by refusing to follow Jesus’ commandments we are in a state of rebellion. Remember the fate of King Saul, 1 Samuel 15:23, For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
Our disobedience can COST us our salvation and eternity in heaven with God. There is a price to pay and eternity is to long to be wrong!!!

Apostolic Believer In One God, Jesus
Yes, it does. Ephesians 4:5 makes it clear that there is one Baptism. Churches that claim otherwise are subverting the plain teaching of scripture for their own purposes.
Usually it does, but there were other types of baptism listed in the Bible. These, however, are clear from the context.
Jesus also spoke of a baptism with fire. This was a reference to punishment in hell fire. Notice Matthew 3:11-12. This “baptism is when, “He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
There was Holy Spirit baptism that Jesus promised to give to the Apostles. (Acts 1:5)
This was a promise and never a command and for only a temporary time and purpose.
After this, we can see that baptism in water continued to be practiced and commanded. ( Acts 8:36-38, Acts Acts 10:47-48, 1 Peter 3:20-21).
Since Ephesians 4 says there is now “one baptism”, then this baptism in water is it.
Any other type of baptism can be seen from the context.
The Greek word we get our word “baptize” from means “to immerse”. If it is not specified they are being immersed in something else, you can assume water is the agent.
For example, if I said, “It is raining” you would know water is falling from the sky, but if I was talking about a volcano eruption and I said “Ashes were raining from the sky”, you would know I was not speaking of regular rain.
Baptism is a dipping or an immersion into something. Normally that “something” is water unless something else is specified.
