Is there any truly high-quality music with Christian emphasis?
I refrain from saying from “Christian music” only because it seems mostly to have become its own genre of weak alternative music. And by weak, I’m not indicating how ‘heavy’ they play because I’m not necessarily speaking of pop and rock. I don’t even like Christian rock. As a matter of fact, much of the sounds of rock & roll don’t appeal to me any longer.
But I am, and I suspect I will forever be, a fan of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin, and their past influences etc… All of the true ‘rock’ musicians who demonstrated excellent complexity and rarely resorted if at all to power chords and all those weaker conventions that became staples of rock & roll.
And I absolutely love Jazz, but that’s mostly instrumental so whether or not it can be considered “Christian” is irrelevant.
But as far as groups or artists who actually sing go, is there anyone who exhibits the depth and complexity of the greats while keeping it “Christian”? I’ve heard all the popular guys, and they just sound like recycled radio pop, everyone from ‘Toby Mac’ and his earlier “DC Talk” and “Newboys” to whatever the latest stuff is (My father’s all over it and plays it most of his waking hours). I can’t stand any of that powerless, saccharine alternative.

Not really, most Christian Rock that I’ve heard if it doesn’t sound preachy, just sounds corny and fake.
