Women Deacons in the Orthodox Church: Called to Holiness and Ministry

The role of women in the Church has been hotly debated by all Christian Churches, especially as it relates to ordained ministry. In the Orthodox Church, this conversation has focused on the existence of women’s ordination to the diaconate. This book traces the development and growth of this ordained expression of ministry in the Christian East. By examining scriptural, patristic, and liturgical evidence, as well as the lives of the women saints identified as deacons, the author demonstrates that women were ordained as deacons to dynamic and evangelical ministries of prayer, teaching, pastoral care and social concern.

Women Deacons in the Orthodox Church: Called to Holiness and Ministry

God commanded Moses to go to Egypt and deliver his fellow Hebrews from bondage. Pharaoh replied that he did not know their God and would not permit them to go. Eventually Pharaoh let the Hebrews depart after Moses’ God sent ten plagues upon the Egyptians. The tenth plague was the slaying of the Egyptian male first-born children, whereupon such terror seized the Egyptians that they ordered the Hebrews to leave. Moses then led his people eastward, beginning the long journey to Canaan.

Jews, why are you called “jews/judaism” when judah was only 1 among the 12 tribes of israel, are others lost?

Most popular answer:

Answer by EddieJ
The name took hold at a time when the tribe of Judah was the largest tribe. It took hold and stuck.

People need to know that etymology does not rule the definition of any words. It simply gives us an idea how a word came to be.

Should waterboarding be called the “New American Baptism?”?
A japanese interrogator was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor back in 1947 for engaging in the torture advocated by the “christian” Bush administration.

There’s a saying that goes, “History is written by the victors.” If someone on the losing side does it, it’s a war crime. If someone on the winning side does it, it’s an “interrogation technique.”

Why isn’t there a category called “Religion?” Look at the other questions in this “Society” category?
Questions pertaining to “Religion” should be in a category by themselves. Not listed with questions regarding “is such and such a prostitute?”

Most popular answer:

The site can’t make separate categories for EVERYTHING, so they have to come up with ways of separating things out. That way, Religion & Spirituality becomes a subcategory of Society & Culture, because that IS what it is a part of — our society and its cultures.

A question such as you referred to is a violation — and should simply be reported, by the way.

Where did the name “Catholicism” actually come from and has the religion ever been called something else?
It is quite clear where the name “Christianity” came from; Jesus CHRIST. However, I have no idea what the name “Catholicism” or “Catholic” is based on, and I wonder if it has always been called that or did Catholicism use to just be called Christianity?

Most popular answer:

Catholic means universal. It is the church in the world. So even Protestants can be catholic, they just aren’t Roman Catholic.
